The Original Sound of House Music

Master C & J

House Music Legends, Chicago

The Origin Story

How It All Began

In 1985, Master C & J stood at the bedrock of Chicago house music. We were fortunate to build a legendary roster of local innovators—visionary DJs, producers, songwriters, and vocalists who shaped the global dance floor.

The lineup brought together heavyweights like singer-songwriter Liz Torres, DJ/producers Edward "Get Down" Cosby, DJ Lugo Rosado, and Carl Bias, complemented by phenomenal musicians Joseph "Jo" Pusateri, Kurt Underwood, and George Torres—and of course, myself, Jessie Jones (producer/manager).

Operating as both a studio production powerhouse and a full live band, we bridged the gap between Chicago and New York City. We rocked the city's grandest venues—Studio 54, The Palladium, The Tunnel, 1018, Sound Factory, Club Zanzibar, and Red Zone.

But one moment stands above the rest: performing on stage at Paradise Garage, where the legendary DJ Larry Levan officially crowned Liz Torres the Queen of House Music.
